The City of Berkeley became aware in 2017 that LED street lamps installed in 2014 had been failing at a higher-than-expected rate.

The LED manufacturer, Leotek, agreed to pay for installation labor and to provide new, more reliable street lamps.

As of January 8, 2020, the installation contractor, Tanko Lighting, reported that the installation task was 99% complete.
